Linguistic Quality Assurance in Localization

Language quality assurance (LQA) is the process of checking a translation's precision in terms of cultural accuracy, linguistic phrasing, terminology, and other factors. The goal is to ensure that the localised information is accurate and of the highest possible quality. LQA is an important part of every translation project, whether it involves document translation, audio translation, or video translation.

A tiny translation error can completely transform the meaning of a company's marketing efforts. Spelling errors, grammatical errors, and inappropriate idiomatic expressions are all key contributors to content localization. Without a doubt, you've come across translations that are badly translated word for word and, in general, don't make sense or convey the intended message. That is something that no company wants. They want the translation to seem exactly like it was written in that language natively to have the most impact.

When translating for the healthcare industry, for example, there are specific quality assurance difficulties because they prefer to talk about people's lives. If the material is not appropriately localised, it can influence the quality of healthcare as well as increase the risk of liability and malpractice claims, as well as run afoul of legislative, regulatory, and accreditation obligations.

Similarly, if the company produces software, there is a lot more to it than just translation. It frequently entails content adaptation for programming interfaces, operating systems, search engines, currency and accounting standards, culturally dependent icon meanings, date formats, calendar systems, and other factors. A single blunder in any of these areas might potentially throw everything off.

The final translation produced at the end of the LQA process should appear to the target audience as natural as it did to the original target market.

Incorporating specific methods, procedures, technology, and a human touch, and blending them together to develop a solution that is specific and unique to a business's individual translation project, is the key to ensuring this. Because each project is unique and diversified, no two LQA solutions are alike.

Translation memory is a database that linguistic quality assurance companies use to save their projects and methodologies. This enables them to apply that expertise to future projects, resulting in cost savings and faster terminology localization across all of their initiatives.
