Released on 28 July 2020, the new Magento 2.4 comes with a long list of new features, bug fixes and security improvements to the No.1 e-Commerce platform in the world.
What Is New In Magento 2.4?
Magento is obviously working on some of the most critical needs of its merchant group, such as search and image management. The broad variety of work shows that the brand Magento has clearly evolved within the brand house of Adobe.
Much Better Default Search
Search is the practice that almost every customer undertakes after landing in your online store. You need to have a search experience that is not just fine, but excellent. In Magento 2.4, the default search engine for Magento is no longer powered by MySQL. Magento now requires you to install Elasticsearch on your server before proceeding with Magento 2.4.
New Media Gallery and Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication is also applied to the security of your Magento Admin account. The process is exactly the same as in other 2FA systems. The system-generated code is sent to the user as the second authentication layer. And with the completely revamped Media Gallery, the store administrator can now browse, filter, and sort images faster than in previous versions of the app.
Seller-Assisted Shopping For Better Customer Service
With Magento 2.4’s new Seller-Assisted Shopping feature, your Customer Service Representatives can log into the Magento Admin website as a customer.
Purchase Approval Workflows
The new technology strengthens the spending management of B2B buying firms, allowing them to set up approval processes for individual purchases.
In-Store Pickup
In-Store Pick Up is native to Magento 2.4 and comes with both the Open Source and Commerce versions. This allows the display of qualifying pick-up locations in conjunction with critical details such as working hours. When an online order is ready for pick-up, the store operator will alert the customer with a single click. There is also the option of a curbside pickup.
General platform upgrades and security improvements
Aside from the previously stated addition of Elasticsearch, Magento 2.4 comes with some more platform upgrades that developers should pay attention to. Most notably, Magento 2.4 now supports the latest versions of PHP programming language (PHP 7.4) and MySQL database (MySQL 8.0) because of their improved performance, security, and reliability. It also reveals how Magento is evolving its product to meet the most advanced technical requirements.
New PWA Studio
PWA Studio is a kind of toolbox that has now been expanded with a few more tools and best practices for creating PWAs.
